MYSTI, I Am Not Sulking, 2019

Performance by MYSTI

MYSTI will perform an introduction to I AM NOT SULKING I AM HONORING YOUR LIMITATIONS in conjunction with its publication launch at District Berlin. I AM NOT SULKING is the first artist book project by MYSTI in which she takes the form of a novena (a prayer prayed over the course of 9 days and usually for souls who’ve become lukewarm) to reconsider power in the age of Nationalism as the religion of Europe, silence as violent refusal of ever-more verbose Modernities, and her own coming to art because she couldn’t afford therapy. The publication will be available for purchase of 10 Euros, but the performance is free.

Since performing Master’s Tool: Is Unpaid Labor Feminist Practice? in 2014, MYSTI has questioned class-based power structures within artistic production, the politics of community, identity as medium, as well as the affect spheres surrounding models of art labor within capitalism. Her writing can be found at https://holdmyhairback.wordpress.com/.

She has performed at nGbK Berlin, Kunstverein Nürnberg and Pogo Bar/KW Institute for Contemporary Art. Following her performance at District Berlin she will perform dialogue alongside artist Vika Kirchenbauer.

The event is part of a series initiated by the newly founded ProgramCollective. The series brings together perspectives that the ProgramCollective considers important incentives for exchange about future artistic and political practices within and beyond District * School without Center. The ProgramCollective consists of Andrea C. Keppler, Ferdiansyah Thajib, Fine Freiberg, Naomi Hennig/Nino Halka, Nastaran Tajeri-Foumani, Nine Eglantine Yamamoto-Masson, Nuray Demir, Peggy Piesche, Suza Husse, Verena Melagarejo Weinandt and Vika Kirchenbauer.
