The workshop Borderlands is based on Anzaldúa’s method of building knowledge production on one’s own experience and on her understanding of border as a space that allows opposites, binaries, paradoxes and contradictions – which coexist within us and bring about constant change – to be brought together.
Through writing exercises, we explore the question: What does it mean for each of us to live in the Borderlands? With movement exercises we will generate everyday movement sequences. From fragments of the interwoven text and movement sequences, we create a collective “poem” that manifests itself in the form of a performative intervention in the America Memorial Library.

Laia Ribera Cañénguez, born 1982 in El Salvador, studied Physical Theatre in Barcelona and graduated with a Master’s in Theatre Pedagogy from the Berlin University of the Arts. In her graduation work Sonreír. A dirty work, a play about globalized care-work, she started to combine biographical theatre and puppet theatre. Laia works as a freelance theatre maker, performer and theatre pedagogue both in Germany, a.o. with MaNN aus Obst Geldwäsche (2019); Eine Geschichte von Vielen (2017) and Queer & Quer (2019), with the performance collective She She Pop ORATORIUM and Shame Shame Shame, Kanon; and in Latin America a.o. with the group Madrija Querencias (2018); with Circus Contemporaneo Alquimia #2 (2019) and as part of the performance collective Siluetas Afuera (2012) and Disidencias (2014).

El taller Vivir en la Frontera se basa en la propuesta de Anzaldúa de crear conocimiento desde la experiencia propia y en la comprensión de Anzaldúa de la frontera como un espacio que permite reunir opuestos, binarios, paradojas y contradicciones, que conviven en nuestro interior y provocan cambios constantes.
Poniendo en práctica ejercicios de escritura nos preguntaremos: ¿Qué significados tiene, para cada una/o de nosotras/os, habitar en la frontera? A través de ejercicios de movimiento generaremos secuencias de movimiento cotidianas. A partir de fragmentos del texto entrelazado y de secuencias de movimiento, crearemos un “poema” colectivo que se manifestará en forma de intervención performativa en la Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek.

Laia Ribera Cañénguez (El Salvador, 1982) estudió teatro físico en Barcelona (Lecoq) y una Maestría en Pedagogía Teatral en la Universidad de las Artes (UdK) en Berlín (Alemania). En la obra realizada para su maestría, Sonreir, eine Dreck(s)arbeit (2017), en donde aborda el tema de las cadenas globales del cuidado, logra juntar experiencias autobiográficas con teatro de marionetas. Laia trabaja como creadora, actriz/performer, directora y pedagoga teatral, tanto en Alemania, entre otros proyectos, con MaNN aus Obst Geldwäsche (2019); Eine Geschichte von vielen (2017) und Queer & Quer (2019), con el colectivo de performance She She Pop ORATORIUM, Shame Shame Shame y Kanon; así como en Latinoamérica con el grupo Madrija Querencias (2018); con Circo Contemporáneo Alquimia #2 (2019) y en el colectivo de performance Siluetas Afuera (2012) y Disidencias (2014).

El evento tiene lugar en el marco de Wissen über Brücken – Conocimiento sobre puentes. Relacionándonos con Gloria E. Anzaldùa en Palabras, Visión y Contexto. Este proyecto de traducción junto con una serie de eventos es organizado y curado por Verena Melgarejo Weinandt y District * Schule ohne Zentrum y se lleva a cabo en cooperación con el Sonntagsbureau de la Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek Berlin y la Editorial Zaglossus.
