Semra Ertan ve Gloria E. Anzaldúa çağdaş olmalarına rağmen hiç karşılaşmamış ve birbirinden bilgileri olmamış. Ikiside şiirlerini ırkçılığa, cinsiyetçiliğe ve diğer ayrımcılık biçimlerine karşı bir araç, ifade ve mücadele yöntemi olarak kullanırlardı. Kendilerini sadece bir birey olarak değil, sanatlarıyla müdahale ettikleri kolektif bir yapının parçası olarak gördüler. Bu etkinlikle birbirinden fiziksel uzak olan fakat yoldaş gibi iki ayrı sesin arasında köprü kurmak istiyoruz ve anılarını yaşatmak zorundayız.
1957 yılında Türkiye’de doğan Semra Ertan, 1972’de ailesi ile birlikte Almanya’ya taşındı. Yapı teknik ressamı ve tercüman olarak çalışıyordu ve 350 den fazla şiir yazdı. 1982’de Semra Ertan, Almanya’da ırkçılığa karşı bir sinyal vermek istedi ve Hamburg’da kendisini yaktı.

wie Menschen zu leben, sondern auch das Recht haben,
wie Menschen behandelt zu werden. Das ist alles.“
„Ich will, dass die Menschen sich lieben und akzeptieren.
Und ich will, dass sie über meinen Tod nachdenken.“
Even though they never met or knew about each other, Semra Ertan and Gloria E. Anzaldúa were contemporaries. Both used their poetry as a
means, expression and an instrument to fight against racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination. Both saw themselves not only as individuals but
as part of a collective structure in which they intervened with their art. This event wants to build a bridge between two voices, that,
although physically distant could perhaps be considered soul sisters. We want and need to uphold their memory.
Semra Ertan was born in Turkey in 1957 and moved to her parents in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1972. She worked as a technical draftsperson and interpreter and wrote more than 350 poems. In 1982 Semra Ertan burned herself in Hamburg to set a mark against racism in Germany.

Semra Ertan y Gloria E. Anzaldúa fueron contemporáneas, aunque nunca se conocieron o llegaron a saber la una de la otra. Ambas usaron su poesía como un medio, expresión e instrumento para luchar contra el racismo, el sexismo y otras formas de discriminación. Ambas se veían a sí mismas no sólo como individuas sino también como parte de una estructura colectiva en la que intervinieron con su arte. Este evento quiere construir un puente entre dos voces que estuvieron físicamente distantes pero que podrían ser consideradas hermanas del alma. Nosotres queremos y necesitamos mantener su memoria.
Semra Ertan nació en Turquía en 1957 y se trasladó con sus padres a la República Federal de Alemania en 1972. Trabajó como delineante técnica e intérprete y escribió más de 350 poemas. En 1982 Semra Ertan se prendió fuego en Hamburgo como forma de protesta contra el creciente racismo en Alemania.
